Duality of Dreams

With this series I continue to explore the concept of Duality and the possibilities unleashed by the need to be several things at once.  I want to show that it is not just possible, but feasible to follow several paths at once.  In Art, the "tug of war" is between the traditional and the conceptual, using the opposing elements as an allegory towards the different influences I have encountered in my own life.

The series was exhibited in the Costa Rican Embassy in Washington D.C. in September 2016.  It also formed part of Washington´s Art All Night event. I had the privilege of having Costa Rica´s ambassador, Roman Macaya Hayes do me the honor of introducing me for both events. I was also blessed and privileged with the most insightful questions and reactions to my work from the crowds of art lovers that visited.  It was truly an amazing experience.

Thank you Thais Gonzalez for being the driving force behind bringing Costa Rican Art and Culture back to D.C. and thank you for inviting me to be among the first to participate in your project.

As a side note, visiting Washington D.C. is always a pleasure. After two intense days of setting up and re-framing everything, I was able to take a day off prior to the exhibit’s inauguration. During this time I took my husband on tour around town, since it had been a while since he’d been in D.C. We even took the Duck Tour which I highly recommend, and our tour guide - the best.

Having been born in Fairfax, Virginia; this is the area of my birth and my first years. When I returned for college and remained for my first two years in the workforce, it was the city that molded me into much of of who I am. It was not until 2002 that I went back to Costa Rica to join my family. It was serendipity that my first Solo Exhibit away from Costa Rica be in the city of my youth. For the intimate inauguration event on Thursday, I was joined by old friends from my past years living in D.C. Then, for the Art All Night event the following Saturday, I was once more made welcome by the students, Art teachers, Art lovers, experts and collectors that visited.
